Creative Practice of an Artist and a Photographer
Photo walks can be super boring for people to watch on UA-cam, so in this video I’m adding another element to the mix by hanging out in a fun location with my artist friend Jane while she sketches and paints, and I take photos.

    Hey there Malene. Fist of all thank you so much for your videos. I've just got a second hand G9 and your videos have been so helpful to move around its functionality. I hope everything is ok on that side of the world. Right now I have Lumix 12-35 and 75-300. I do like the 12-35 lens, but I'm pretty sure I'd miss some length (for years my most used lens was a 14-54). Hearing of the ex tele conv option, I thought maybe I could keep the 12-35 and use that function for going to 49 (with that x1. 4)..I don't know if you've tried these lenses, but having tested the ex tele conv, do you think can be worth it rather than buying a Leica 12-60 (that could be a 12-84) or a 14-140?

      The thing with using EXT is that you need to use the Medium file size. And that might not be enough for you. If you feel you're missing out on the focal lengths between 35 and 75, then you definitely could consider the 12-60. I use that lens a lot. I also have the 12-35 which I don't use much anymore since getting the 12-60. Keep in mind there are two versions of that 12-60 lens, the Pro and the Consumer. Neither of them is super fast. Your 12-35 f2.8 is better in that regard. But if you're mostly a fair weather shooter then you can get the consumer version of the 12-60 or just live with what you have and crop where needed when using the 12-35. It depends on your budget and needs. Maybe you can pick up a used lens. Hope that helps!

    • @luigibettelli7840
      @luigibettelli7840 5 годин тому

      Cristal clear, thanks! Regarding the 12-60, between the two versions is it only a matter of being weather sealed? I was thinking of the 2.8-4 version (Leica) but if the difference is only that, I guess I can happily save some money! Thanks as usual

    Great overview! Very informative. I just got a secondhand G9 in addition to my mostly Olympus and Canon fleet. I couldn't figure out that need to disable the direct AF point selection with the joystick if you want to set the cursor function buttons. Fortunately if you re-enable joysticks the associations stay, so I can have similar settings like on my Oly EM1.2, but with an extra joystick. I doubled some on Oly for direct selection of drive modes, but on G9 I'm using one of the new-found Fn buttons to customise within the two settings. Super helpful. If I could only set the fps rate to a rate of my choosing...

    2 years later (and I read that you bought the 100-400) and this has been very helpful for me to decide how to step up to the MFT world from my tiny-sensor superzoom (Pany SX70 HS). I LOVE(!!!) the high magnification for IDing birds, but must admit I'm tired of poor detail/sharpness. I think the G9 and this lens (instead of the 100-300) would keep me happy for many years. Thx

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven 11 днів тому

      Yes get the 100-400. There's a new mark 2 of that lens out now too. So you might find a bargain on the original one. You might also consider the OM-1 camera (mark1) for the same reason. And it's better for birding than the original G9 (but only if you're getting really serious about birding). Also Sony has a great bridge camera the RX10IV but it only goes to 600mm (equivalent) and the Lumix is 800mm equiv. Lots to consider.

    My problem is seeing the individual images of a burst well enough on the camera display to pick out the ones I want to save (e.g., a hummingbird flight burst). I'd like to just upload all of the images from the burst onto my desktop Imac so I could see them well enough to make my favorite selections - then delete the rest. So, is there a way (my camera is a Lumix DC-ZS200D) to easily break the burst down into all of the individual images? That way I can export them en masse to my desktop Imac for more scrutiny. As is is, I have to select and save each image one by one so I can then export them all. But saving them all one by one is very laborious. Anyone please chip in if you know how. I can't seem to find a Panasonic community forum to post the question there. Thanks!!!

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven 21 день тому

      You can extract a frame from the video clip, but you're probably better off choosing the fastest frame rate in the regular shooting modes, not the 4K ones.

    • @markrivkin4867
      @markrivkin4867 21 день тому

      @@ImageMaven Thanks so much for your kind and prompt reply. I'm not sure if "extract a frame" gives me what I was looking for which is a way to save all of the images individually to the camera so I didn't have to save them one by one. Am I missing something? Also, how would choosing the "fastest frame rate" help with saving each image individually? In my ignorance, the reason I chose 4K burst was thinking 4K would give me a better image (one that I could crop away at without too much degradation) than a smaller version of the same image. Is using 4K burst as I am a poor choice to get the best image result? Thanks again, Mark.

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven 20 днів тому

      Nope. 4k files are much smaller than the highest resolution JPGs or raw files from your camera. But "4k Photo" modes in some older Lumix cameras allows for special features like very high burst rates and focus stacking. However it creates a video of those photos. If you shoot regular burst (not using 4k Photo) you'll have access to all the frames individually (not a video) and the files will be larger and you can crop a bit. Hope that makes sense.

    • @markrivkin4867
      @markrivkin4867 20 днів тому

      @@ImageMaven I see, thanks, this is very helpful. I think this will do exactly as I want. The burst doesn't go as fast, but I guess that's because I set image size to L (20 mb). Thanks for sticking with me on this - you are GREAT!

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven 20 днів тому

      Glad to hear it all worked out for you. Yes, the burst at 20mp is slower, but you will get more usefulness out of the files. The "4K Photo" modes have mostly been discontinued in the new cameras. And I think Lumix was the only brand that used them. It was a bit of a marketing thing when they came out.

    very rustic location, there was something similar to this here in the UK and have taken a photo of a car from the late 50s just rusting. it looked like it was for parts for an art installation or sculpture.

    Beautiful video...even with my G85 + Lumix Leica 100-400mm Combo ,I could get sharp snaps at 1/250 ss for a bird sitting still and if the light is low, i get way with 1/60 ss in burst mode to keep the ISO low...I shoot Jpeg +Raw and this slows down the Frames per second but gives me the option to process the Raw image with DXO Photolab Elite which has a fantastic Lens correction for sharpening the image according to the camera + Lens combo , and also superb AI Demosaicing/Denoise (Deep Prime XD) that cleans up High ISO noise ...and it does not take time to edit raw images and coupled with NIK collection it offers a big step up to get the snap as vivid as we wish it to be....I am thinking of upgrading to the Lumix G9 II and am interested in your views on the step up that this would offer in terms of image quality (on account of increased resolution, dynamic range,etc)...Thanks

      You should definitely notice a step up between your camera and the G9ii. I sure did from the G9. I have a few other videos in the G9ii so hopefully you’ve had a chance to watch them. Look for the pigeons 😉

    Nice quiet location with a earthy old worldly feel and beautifully capturing it on paper and camera ...Have not seen any Birding videos from your end with the G9 II camera Lumix-Leica 100-400mm Combo...Birding is a sure fire way to be in the moment and find oneself as we await the birds to show up in unexpected ways ...Cheers.

      I enjoy being in the moment very much too. And you’ll be happy to hear I’ve made 3 or 4 G92 birding videos. Here’s the latest: New bird photography techniques using the Lumix G9II ua-cam.com/video/U8x5gQBmDMw/v-deo.html

    A huge thank you for this video which influenced my decision to purchase a unit for myself. I am so glad I did, and that I took your advice to order direct from Kodak for big savings! It arrived in good time, with low-cost shipping just as you had said. But the best part is rediscovering all those lost memories -- faces and long-ago moments previously trapped in inaccessible media.. My family is so pleased with the results of just the first few films -- I clearly have many hours of scanning and editing ahead of me! So... Thank You!!

    In about a week. I will be buying a used G9. I will never use any B&W mode as I prefer my own Photoshop custom settings for B&W; usually Infrared. I love the Japanese engineers who give me auto focus but not the engineers who think that their choices are the ones I want

    Lumix S9 is the worst camera for photographer, especially for a beginner; it has no mechanical shutter, no viewfinder, and no hand grip---it don't have dick, let alone its being a "gateway to fullframe." The Lumix S5 or S5 II would be a good gateway camera, not the Lumix S9, which is a piece of shit.

    Does this fit on an olimpus pen ft film camera?

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven 26 днів тому

      Likely not. The sensors size is much smaller than 35mm film so it likely wouldn’t have the coverage. You’d need a FF lens but even then not sure it would fit.

    Hi, I know this is an old(ish) video but I recently bought a used G9 and your posts have been invaluable. The Custom modes are really useful BUT I have one question/issue. I find it so easy to accidentally catch the rear dial on the top plate and not notice. My C1 is set up in Aperture Priority at F8 (plus loads of other bits and bobs) but after I've picked it up/put it down a few times the apeture can by anything and I've not noticed. Do you know of any way to 'lock' the rear dial so my fat thumbs can't accidentally change it? Thank you.

      @ImageMaven 26 днів тому

      Hi Simon, I found some information on page 47 of the pdf camera owner's manual. You can assign the rear dial to another function, but it doesn't mention if you can lock it. I guess you'll have to use duct tape. ;)

      @@ImageMaven , Thx Marlene, I'll have play and keep my fingers crossed or duct tape my thumb to my forefinger. A bit extreme but whatever works 🙂
